Too many amazing results to keep up with!

This week, there has been a flurry of tournaments with our SHCS athletes achieving and working hard together. It has been very had to stay focused in the office.

Touch:

Congratulations to our Touch team who are once again SISS Champions for 2023.  After beating Motueka, Rangi Ruru, Papanui, St Margaret's, Craighead and Marlborough Girls' in pool and semi final play, the team came up against our sister rivals Columba.  Leading into this tournament, the team had lost twice to Columba in the school quad and Otago Secondary Schools' so the determination for the team to take this game was huge.  Winning 3-1, it shows other teams to put the past in the past and not stress about other results but to make it count when it matters and you never know what can happen. Well done team!

Cricket:

Over the past week, our first XI and development XI have had a lot of games. Travelling to Christchurch last week, then playing on Monday in the Gillette Venus finals was a big task. The firsts' played Christchurch Girls at the wonderful ground of Willows, in Loburn. It is a privilege to play there where many traditions are upheld. The team batted to a great 151, before fielding and bowling superbly to get Christchurch Girls' out for 56. Chloe Deerness was presented with the golden bat badge for her participation and leadership in recognition of four years of playing at Willows.

Our development team played, Rangi Ruru, St Margaret's and Rangiora over the two days, coming out with 2 wins.  It was a great opportunity for our juniors to get more game time and develop strong bonds that will see them continue over the next few years.

Rowing:

This week, our intermediate and senior rowing crews are at Lake Karapiro, in Cambridge. They have had a wonderful start to the week with Perri Hore (U16 single) and the u16 Octuple making it through to the A Final. Olivia Ollerenshaw is through to the semi final of the U17 single. Christy Foster and Maddie Cockburn gained some inspiration for their race by meeting Olympic Medalist Emma Twig, before making the U18 Double semi final and Olivia and Perri are also in the semi final for the U17 Double.  More results are sure to follow by the end of the week.

There were some great results, with a number of big personal bests swum, as well as a few finalist and podium placings. Victoria gained 2nd place in both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke.

We are still looking for any students that are keen to give football a shot or have some experience. We are close to having a team but need some more players to make this happen. If you are interested, please get in touch with Mrs Parker or Mr Janssen.
