Tolcarne News

And thats a wrap on Week 5! We are now officially past the half way mark in the term, meaning there isn't long to go until the Christmas break

Last Friday Robyn, Mrs Rathbone and I headed off to Waihola with the Year 9 group for our annual camp. This is a one night trip, where we finish off our wellbeing unit (Koru) and spend time together before the end of the year. The weather was perfect when we arrived, meaning it was a great chance to get out on their new waterslide! Everyone was right into it (Mrs Rathbone included!!), enjoying a chance to cool down on a warm day

After the slide we headed in for dinner, followed by the 'assault course'. Each bunk room did a fantastic job of working as a team to complete the course. There was great leadership shown, with each team member included and no one getting left behind. We were very impressed and this carried on through the group performances they put together. The staff were treated to an evening of entertainment, with everything from a Broadway show to some 'boys' entering the stage...!

After the excitement of performing, Robyn set up a campfire - complete with marshmallows and smores! To finish the night we ended our Koru unit. The first activity involved making an object from tin foil, representing the year at Tolcarne. Everyone got very creative, making people, hearts, speed bumps, smiles and more. We followed this by individually going around the circle, giving out a chocolate santa to someone we were grateful for. It became quite emotional, with the group really reflecting on what each person had done for them and how much their gestures meant.

The following day was not so flash in terms of weather... We started off with Archery Tag in the rain, which didn't put any of them off! This was followed by zorb soccer aka running into each other and doing rolls! Once everyone was fully saturated we headed inside for some of Robyn's relay games. This was a great way to finish the camp, with the competitiveness of the group reaching an all time high! A special thanks to Robyn and Mrs Rathbone for another successful Waihola camp (especially this year - having to be very flexible due to changes and weather!).

On Tuesday we farewelled a special member of staff, Georgia Trent. Georgia worked as a prep supervisor and house manager in the weekends, always having a big smile on her face! After deciding to hold a farewell supper, the juniors baked cupcakes and created a card for her in the afternoon. It was lovely to celebrate all Georgia has done for us and we are certainly going to miss her next year. All the best for your upcoming adventures in Auckland Georgia, NETFIT are very lucky to have you

Tolcarne is feeling slightly quieter at the moment, especially now that all of the senior students have finished timetabled class for the year. We are looking forward to celebrating the seniors today at their Prize Giving and also the Year 13 students at their Leavers' Service tonight. It is crazy to think we are already at the final part of the year - especially now that we are farewelling these girls. We look forward to sharing photos from the event with you all next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, hopefully with sunshine and good weather  Please remember to complete your/your daughters wellness declaration form before returning to Tolcarne after overnight/weekend leave. Thank you for your continued cooperation with our Covid-19 procedures.
