Library News

With International Women’s Day at the forefront of community events this week, the Library has been no exception. Given the school’s special character, it is no surprise that we have an abundance of literature celebrating women’s success on our shelves. Be they books about athletes, artists or advocates, our titles send a clear message to readers that women are diverse, and that diversity is our strength.

A maker’s space event drew students to our tables as we gathered to create bookmarks of inspirational Kiwi women. Events such as this really promote our sense of community here in the Library, providing opportunities for relaxed connection where, as always, I hope students come to learn that all are welcome here.

Feedback from members of the student body has indicated a real desire for more of these opportunities to connect around craft. Students value the face to face connection, and appreciate the device-free setting in which relationships are fostered. The Library really looks forward to supporting this desire as we plan for the future.

Great Women Artists Phaidon Press

The most extensive, fully illustrated book of women artists ever published, Great Women Artists reflects an era where art made by women is more prominent than ever. In museums, galleries, and the art market, previously overlooked female artists, past and present, are now gaining recognition and value. Featuring more than 400 artists from more than 50 countries and spanning 500 years of creativity, each artist is represented here by a key artwork and short text. This essential volume reveals a parallel, yet equally engaging, history of art for an age that champions a greater diversity of voices.

"Real changes are upon us, and today one can reel off the names of a number of first-rate women artists. Nevertheless, women are just getting started."— The New Yorker
