Independent Learning Time

At the end of 2020 we looked at ways we could provide opportunities to build independent learning skills and provide an aspect of the flexibility that came through from the students as something they really valued during online learning. We were interested in finding ways to maximise the benefits of being able to prioritise their time and the work that needs to be completed within the school structure.

As a starting point we set aside two days at the end of 2020 for i Time where teachers of the classes the students had on that day set work that could be completed independently. This work was set up in class earlier in the week.

They had the flexibility to manage when and where (in a limited number of spaces within the school) they completed the day’s work.

Following these days we got feedback from both staff and students to inform our next steps in developing opportunities for flexibility in our learning environment. We will be trialling another opportunity for independent learning later in the term and will provide further details closer to to that time.
