Languages Department

This week our French and Spanish classes have been celebrating the 125th Anniversary, through various class activities. Their work will be on display outside the languages classrooms for our visitors to see over the weekend.

The Year 9s have been learning dictionary skills, and created Word Clouds of vocabulary to do with the celebrations. Year 10s have been learning about adjective use, and Year 11s have been learning a new past tense. They have both described the uniforms we have had at St Hilda's over the past 125 years and in the coming weeks their work will also be made into a video to share with their new penpals in Nantes, France.

Year 12 students have been working on learning new languages for a timeline. For the French students, this has meant learning about the Past Historic tense. The Year 13s have been exploring ideas around what it would have been like to be a St Hilda's student in various eras of the past. To prepare for these tasks, we asked our resident expert historian Mr Huggett to speak to the Year 12/13 French and Spanish students. The girls enjoyed finding out more about our history and seeing the photos he had brought along to share with them. We are very fortunate to have Mr Huggett, who is always so willing to share his genuine interest in our history.
