Otago SS Athletic Results

Last Friday and Saturday, 12 SHCS students competed at the Otago Secondary School Athletic Champs. The weather was beautiful and our athletes represented the school with a lot of pride. Thank you to the staff, students and parents that helped with our school duty.

Results:

Under 15 - Lydia Tumaru, 9th in 200m, Neve Black 5th in 800m, Billiie Crowe 1st in 400m, 3rd in 800m.

Under 16 - Sophia Le, 3rd in Long Jump, 5thin 200m, 8th in 100m, Zara Geddes, 1st in 800m, 1500m, 3000m and broke the record for the steeple chase!  Renee Willis placed 1st in Hammer Throw and Shot put, she also broke both records in each event.

Under 19 - Sophie Shallard, 2nd in 1500m, Megan Foster 4th & 6th in the 1500m and 3000m. Alika Croot broke the record in the Pole vault, Kristin Willis finished first and threw a PB in both the Hammer Throw and Shot put.  Emma McKay finished 2nd in Long Jump with Bernice Cullen finishing 1st (& equalling the record) in the same event.  In the Triple Jump, it was a close contest with Emma, Bernice and Alika competing and finishing, 2nd, 3rd & 4th respectively.

SHCS Orienteering

With 3 summer series events down and 1 to go, the St Hilda’s girls are doing well. Grace Cotter is performing well, Tessa McConachie and Annabel Bilkey have moved up to a more challenging level, as have the two juniors - Bella Bamford and Liesel Tolson, which is really impressive.

The Otago Schools Orienteering Championships were held in Dunedin over the weekend. The girls all did a fantastic job, with Alice Bennett in Year 8 gaining first place in the Standard Grade for Intermediate Girls, while Bella Bamford won the Junior Girls category and Leisel Tolson took out an extremely close second place!

7&8 Cricket Team

Last Friday, our intermediate cricket team played in a quarter and semi final for the NZC Shield.  It was a beautiful long day but the girls did incredibly well.  In both games the team battered first and scored 180plus and 157 in both batting innings.  When it came too bowling and fielding, the girls defended their totals and kept the ball on the wicket.  The team now plays Fairfield next Wednesday in the Final.  I am sure this will be a close contest.  The winner of this Otago/Southland competition will have the opportunity to attend the Intermediate Nationals.

Sailing

Currently St Hilda's only have one sailor (that we know about) so we are looking for any interested student that might be keen on having a go. Our current student Bonnie McGregor has been achieving fantastic results but would love some more SHCS students so that we can have a team. Come and see Mrs Parker or talk to Bonnie if you know her.

SISS Tournament Week

All the best to all our teams that are heading off to Summer Tournament week from 19th -28th March.  We look forward to hearing all about the fun and the experiences you will have!
