Sports Department

Term 4 has been fast and full on for our sporting teams, with many finishing over the last few weeks.

Last week, we had the OSSSA Junior Sports Week, where Year 9 & 10 students were able to participate in 3x3 Basketball, Ki-O-Rahi, Rugby Sevens and Esports. It was great to see our students giving new sports a go and enjoying some active recreation at a busy time of year.

Our Junior A Water Polo and Volleyball Teams have also had tournaments in late November. Both teams have worked hard across Term 1 and 4. Their skill development has improved and this has shown in their enjoyment and results at the tournament. Our Volleyball team finished 7th in Otago while the Water Polo team finished 6th in the South Island.

We celebrated our sports athletes achievements with our sports Prize Giving and Blues Award evening. Congratulations to our sports excellence teams who received a badge for their team achievements: First XI Hockey, Senior A Netball, Aerobics - Secondary Open and Secondary Fitness Teams and the First XV Rugby. Well done to all recipients at both ceremonies!

The sports year however is far from over, with St Hilda’s teams traveling to various parts of the country in the last week of school to compete at the NZSS Athletics Championships and NZSS Touch Championships. Good luck to our athletes and we look forward to hearing your results next year.

The Sports Department is already in full planning mode for 2023, with hosting Summer Quad in March, booking tournament accommodation, travel plans, and preparing for the weekly competitions. Like all students, we are looking forward to enjoying some down time with family and friends. We encourage our students to have a well deserved rest and recover after what has been a busy year!

Thank you...

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all coaches, managers, teachers in-charge, parents and support people, who have been an integral part of the success of St Hilda’s sports teams during 2022. Without your assistance the girls would not have achieved as highly as they have.
