Meet the Prefects

Luana Ashton - Liaison Wellbeing Prefect

Before I came to St Hilda’s I went to St Brigid’s Primary School. By the time my primary school years came to an end, I faced a scary decision of where I wanted to start a new chapter in my life. I remember coming to the St Hilda’s Open Day and telling my parents that this was the school for me! As a scared wee 10-year old I was nervous but excited to walk through the archway and arrive at St Hilda’s to start my intermediate and high school experience, and what an experience it has been. I was the small kid whose uniform didn’t quite fit me right, with the statement rectangle glasses and slick back hairstyle, that we all went through a phase of.

Coming to St Hilda’s couldn’t have been a better decision for me, although I was leaving my primary school friends and classmates, I found the environment at St Hilda’s calm, welcoming, and easy to make friends. All of the friends and connections I have made at St Hilda’s are ones that I know I will keep and cherish for a lifetime.

I have always enjoyed sports and have been part of many teams throughout my 7 years at St Hilda’s. These have included Touch, Waterpolo, Netball, and Hockey. The opportunities and experiences that St Hilda’s has given me I am more than grateful for. I have been especially lucky to have gone to Japan on a school trip at the end of Year 9, been part of the Senior A touch team, who won the South Island title in Year 12 and to have been able to serve back to the school by being one of the 2022 Liaison prefects.

As the Liaison Wellbeing prefect for 2022 I have learnt, grown, and built, not only as a student but as a person ready to leave St Hilda’s and head out to the big wide world. I have found my role especially rewarding. Working alongside Nicola and the rest of the Prefect team, creating initiatives in the school for the students to participate in and enjoy has been super special to be part of.

St Hilda’s has given me lifelong friendships, a forever growing skill set, endless opportunities and I am so grateful for the 7 years I have had here. Next year I am going to the Otago Polytechnic to study a Bachelor of Design (Fashion), which I am very excited for. I’m sure I will still keep in touch with what’s happening in the Hilda’s community, so I’ll see you around
