Meet the Prefects

Dani Willsman - Liaison Prefect (Wellbeing)

Approximately 1,330 school days ago, I walked through the arch on the first day of Year 7 with my kilt close to my ankles and my blue blazer looking the most immaculate it ever has. I was a little nervous, a lot excited and completely oblivious as to how St Hilda’s was going to shape me into the person I am today. My 11 year old self was looking forward most to using the climbing wall in the gym. I loved the idea of having individual subjects including science and technology different teachers for each.

Before coming to St Hilda’s I attended Fairfield Primary School, and I had to make the difficult decision of whether to stay for Year 7 and 8 where I had lots of friends and knew my way around, or if I would embrace the challenge of a new school, having to make new friends and being one of the “little kids” again. I know I made the right choice for me, and entering St Hilda's from Year 7, although daunting at the times, was certainly an advantage at the start of Year 9 as I already knew my way around.

During my 7 years at St Hilda’s I have made the most of many opportunities available to me. Sports tournaments, kayaking in Abel Tasman and Murchison and school camps have been some of my highlights. I love being part of a team, encouraging others and giving everything a try. This year I have had the incredible opportunity to be part of the prefect team. I have loved taking the leadership role of Liaison Wellbeing prefect and especially working alongside a fantastic group of girls to plan and organise events for the school. This has been a fun, busy and challenging time and I have learned a lot about both myself and the school.

A definite highlight of this was the 125th celebrations. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to speak with the old girls and to listen to their stories and experiences at St Hilda's over the years. I felt proud to be one of the students showcasing our school as it is today.

And now, as I leave St Hilda’s I realise what a privilege it has been to be a part of this amazing school. More and more I have come to appreciate our school with Mrs Barron and teachers who care not only about each individual student's academic achievement, but also their wellbeing. Who check on us when we are going through tough times and celebrate with us when things are great. Who encourage us to do and be our best and promote an environment where we look out for each other.

I am so grateful for my time at St Hilda's. I have enjoyed so many school events and met so many fantastic friends. I have been challenged and encouraged in so many different ways. I will miss school, however I feel ready, equipped to take on the challenges of University (BSc in Human Nutrition) and more. I am determined to make the most of the fantastic privilege I've been given by being a St Hilda's girl and am excited for what the future holds.

If I don’t see ya round, i’ll see you square.
