Library News

Term Four is always such a lovely time in the library and this year was no exception! I love the buzz of all the fun activities mixed with the quiet of serious study as the senior students focus on their exams. This year I have also enjoyed several Year 8 students volunteering at lunchtime as they complete their service requirements for the Aston Award. Their help was much appreciated and they should be very proud of themselves.

Getting absorbed in a great book is a fabulous way to wile away long summer afternoons and I hope you all have your TBR (To Be Read) piles ready! Keeping up reading over summer is also an important part of keeping those literacy skills sharp during the long break from school.

An excellent way to encourage summer reading is to start some bookish discussions with your family. Here are a few conversation starters and activities to get the ball rolling. It’s always interesting to ask grandparents about their childhood favourites, and often enlightening to find out which books people have NOT enjoyed. (For me, it was Ethan Frome in Year 11. Not one for the favourites shelf!)

Best wishes for a wonderful summer! I will miss being a part of this amazing community when I move to Wellington, but I look forward to keeping in touch and coming back to visit the library.
