Languages Department News

Term 1 has been a busy term for the Languages Department, welcoming the return of our exchange with Colegio Concepción Chiguyante in Chile. St Hilda’s has hosted two students, Pascale and Martina for six weeks. They have participated in all aspects of school life, studying a range of subjects in Year 12 and 13, as well as being able to experience the significance of Easter as part of our special character, as well as how we celebrate Easter in Aotearoa. In addition, our school community has learned about Chilean life through cooking and dance.

Two year 13 students, Sophie Burke and Thareni Luxmanan will travel to Concepción, Chile during the school holidays to start their exchange, living with Pascale and Martina’s whānau. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing about their experiences in Term 2.

The Languages Department have welcomed back Emilie, Lilian, and Matua Paul as our Language Assistants who provide valuable linguistic support and cultural insight for our ākonga. We are very fortunate to have these native speakers in our classrooms who also support Whaea Rachel, Madame Holtz and Señora Bromley.
