Year 12 DVC

Last week the Year 12 Design and Visual Communication class went on a field trip to investigate the facilities and service offered by the Monarch Wildlife Cruises & Tour company. The class are developing architectural concepts for a new terminal for the company at their base at Steamer Basin.

The class went on the cruise to Taiaroa Head in order to better understand the needs of the customers using their proposed terminals and get inspiration from wildlife and landscapes to incorporate into their designs. Redevelopment of the terminal is needed as the company is currently operating out of a repurposed garage and vision for Steamer Basin offered by Architecture van Brandenberg promotes innovative architecture for the area.

A great day with calm seas and sunshine enabled the class to experience Dunedin’s unique wildlife with Hector's Dolphins, Blue Penguins, Sea Lions, Fur Seals, Spotted Shags, Cape Petrels, and Albatross all seen on the trip.
