Arts Department

Term three started and concluded with lively celebrations of the visual and performing arts at St Hilda’s.

To start the term we found out that our Showquest team, who traveled to Invercargill and won 1st Place at Regionals had secured a National Award for Best Cultural Story. This was such an honor to receive and such a great achievement for the school. We were so proud of how it all came together and the teamwork our students showed.

Our school choir, Madrigali Rouge, traveled to Timaru for The Big Sing Cadenza. It was a memorable weekend of workshops, performances and an evening gala concert at the beautiful sacred heart basilica for our 20 choir students. Congratulations Madrigali Rouge on coming home with a Korimako (silver) award.

Mr Madden is leaving us at the end of the year. We thank Mr Madden for his time spent at St Hilda’s and wish him well in his future endeavors. Madrigali Rouge will have the opportunity to farewell Mr Madden in Term 4.

Amelia Mah is delighted to be the new Choir Director for St Hilda's, beginning 2023. She has a wealth of experience singing in choirs including the NZ Secondary Students' Choir, and has directed choirs at schools and churches in Dunedin over the past eight years. Amelia holds a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Voice from the University of Otago, and has worked with all ages of voices in both classical choral and contemporary styles. She teaches voice and piano through her business Mah Music (www.mahmusicnz.com), and can also accompany singing on guitar and ukulele. Amelia looks forward to working with Sings Hilda, Nga Korimako and the whole school.

Well done to our Rockquest band members Sapphire Skies (Alice Graham, Sylvie Harper, Sophie Beardmore, and Lila Howley) who were placed 3rd in the region and the Best Vocalist was awarded to Sylvie Harper

Lily Knox has had her photography published in an online NZ Photography magazine along with an interview, as a rising star. This is an awesome achievement.
