Meet Carthika from the Board of Trustees

Kia ora and vanakkam. I am the proud mother of twins Thareni and Thanuja Luxmanan, who are currently in Year 11 at St Hilda's. You can learn a bit more about my day job here (www.linkedin.com/in/carthika-luxmanan-332ba437), but my primary role is to manage our four kids and ensure they stay out of trouble (much to their chagrin).

I love meeting new people, catching up with friends and going for walks. I have really enjoyed being on the school's Board of Trustees as a parent representative, amidst the talented and driven individuals that make up the board. It's been a great introduction to governance, with support and guidance from Jackie, Richard and other senior members of the BOT. It is also rewarding being able to contribute in some small way to reach fairly substantial decisions for the school's governance.

I look forward to meeting more of the school's community as we move into a more relaxed post-pandemic Aotearoa.

Best wishes, Carthika

Term 3 commenced with our Annual General Meeting. Prior to the meeting we were captivated by our guest speaker Olive Tabor, founder of Patti’s & Cream, as she took us on the entertaining journey of her career and the build up to her recently opened Diner on George Street.

At the AGM we were thankful to all officers who confirmed they were happy to continue in their roles, and elected unopposed as follows:

Roberta Lawrence - President

Linh Ashton - Vice President / Fundraising Co-ordinator

Leanne Wright - Treasurer

Jenny Wagner - Secretary

Andrea Chisholm & Sharon Fulton - PFA Board of Proprietors Reps

The highly anticipated PFA Fundraising Gala was held on Saturday 6th August. Thank you to the wider school community that purchased tickets and supported this event. The generosity of all the sponsors from contributing to the event, sponsoring tables and donations towards the auctions both silent and live was greatly appreciated. Our fabulous guest speakers were interviewed smoothly and seamlessly by Mrs Barron, and the Master of Ceremonies - Mike Collins kept us entertained and on track. The evening was very much a chance to reconnect and celebrate being part of the St Hilda’s community.

The PFA are very grateful and thrilled to announce that a grand total of $63,000 was raised from the Fundraising Gala, and as a result we are very pleased to make the following donations to the school:

$50,000 toward the Whitby upgrade (the specific aspects or item this will go towards will be worked through in the coming months and will then be formally acknowledged).

$20,000 towards the proposed playground area in the school grounds.

During Term 3 the PFA has also supported the school community by assisting with serving the super at the Parent Seminar, a donation towards the Year 13 Leavers Function and approval of Sports & Culture Funding requests to the value of $1,050.

The PFA continues to meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 7pm in the school library. Our final meetings for 2022 are scheduled for the 19th of October and 16th of November.

If you are interested in joining the PFA or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us pfa@shcs.school.nz
