Friendship lessons from a fishbowl

Friendships are an ongoing source of some of the best and worst experiences in high school. It can cause your daughter to be dancing around the house, excitedly talking and laughing about the day, looking forward to tomorrow, or have her in a tearful heap, desperate to avoid a repeat tomorrow.

As parents, we often respond to how our daughters are feeling because we are reminded of our own experiences and we know the joy or the devastation that we felt as young people and we want our daughter to avoid that pain at all costs.

We need to think about how we guide them during the tricky times therefore, because it is rarely always plain sailing and we need to help them navigate those times when things are rough. Knowing who to go to for help, what their own values and beliefs are, and what they will and won’t accept are important things to consider and talk about.

I saw this article online last week and thought that there are some great things for families to talk about, for girls to think about and for parents to reflect on and help with.
