Tolcarne News

Kia ora Tolcarne whanau! We hope you are all feeling refreshed and recharged after a lovely long weekend break. It was certainly a bit quieter at Tolcarne, with lots of our students away on Winter Tournament Week. We are looking forward to hearing about the different tournaments and have enjoyed following along with the games played.

On Tuesday we decided to make our own crepes after school. With every type of topping possible, the crepes were looking pretty impressive! Even with a few cooking and flipping disasters, the amount of whipped cream and Nutella covered any imperfection! Thanks to Molly Lundy who came and helped the juniors out to perfect their delicious crepes

On Wednesday evening we had our Year 9 Koru session. This had a continued focus on 'fear', where we attempted the night line challenge. Robyn created an outdoor night line, where the students had to navigate their way through the dark blindfolded, with only a rope and each other to guide them! This involved a lot of trust, as being blindfolded outside in the dark can be scary! Well done to all of the Year 9s for participating in this activity.

The kitchen team have been busy preparing our 'Mid-Week Lunch Focus' trial. The trial is offering a different lunch focus option, working on a 2 weekly cycle. We are continuing with a hot item for breakfast, daily baking, bread/wraps, yoghurt and soup, but will have a particular tailored option for lunch, so there is even more variety! Our first rotation included... pasta salad/pasta on Monday, poke bowls on Tuesday, sushi on Wednesday, bagels/wraps on Thursday and cooked breakfast items/poke bowls on Friday (along with hot lunch once a week). We hope that the lunch focus will help our students feel that there is a variety in their options. This will be running for the next 4 weeks, so we look forward to seeing how it goes!

We hope all of our sporting teams get some well deserved rest over the weekend, before getting back into school on Monday. It is going to be a big few weeks with Benchmark exams approaching for seniors and our annual Ski Trip not too far away! We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Sunday evening and having a full hostel again! Have a fabulous weekend. Ma tē wā
