Sports Update

This week we have had the following sports get underway: Water Polo, Volleyball, Summer Hockey, Cricket and Tennis. It has been awesome to see our students participating and get involved in sports they love. The school also had their first two students participate in the Secondary School Petanque league!  Touch will get started next week so we look forward to that.

This week....

Modified Athletics Day

On Tuesday we took a small group of competitive athletes to the caledonian to compete in a modified athletics day against Columba's athletes. Both schools saw this as an opportunity to work together and provide an opportunity to compete for school trophies and records. It was a beautiful day and the students were in great spirits. Congratulations to Bernice Cullen, who broke a Senior Long Jump record with a distance of 5.31m, while also doing a personal best jump. In our athletics day we don't offer a triple jump event but we did on Tuesday, Bernice jumped 10.55m which is another PB. Renee Willis also threw a massive Shot Put throw of 12.08m for a PB. To better her PB by 40cm!!

On the track, Billie Crowe took out the 800m, Zara Geddes won the 1500m and our senior relay team took top honors. Well done to all of our athletes that came down.

Fern Fever for 7&8

Also on Tuesday our Year 7&8 students headed to Logan Park Turf to take part in a Fern Fever Event. This was put on by Otago Cricket, Otago Rugby and Football South. The afternoon provided our students a chance to be introduced to a sport they may never had played and to work on their ball skills. The event is run to celebrate the three upcoming Women's World Cup events that take place over the next year and to recognise women in sport.
