Audiobook of the Week:

People Like Us by Dana Mele

“Kay Donovan has skeletons in her closet, but who doesn't? The past is the past, and now Kay's a star soccer player whose group of gorgeous, pedigreed friends run their private school with effortless popularity and acerbic wit. But when a girl's body is found in the lake, Kay's carefully constructed life begins to topple. The dead girl has left a memento, a computer-coded scavenger hunt, which, as it unravels, begins to implicate each of Kay's friends, until Kay herself is in the crosshairs of the murder investigation. At this school, no one is quite what they seem...even Kay.”

Print Books of the Week:

The Murder Most Unladylike series and the Enola Holmes series!

More books in each of these series have been requested and we now have the first four books in each series ready to go. Both of these are historical mystery series set in England and they are loads of fun and appropriate for younger readers. The Enola Holmes books might be of particular interest to anyone who has watched the Netflix movie of the first book.

Murder Most Unladylike (Book one in series) by Robin Stevens

“When Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong set up a secret detective agency at Deepdean School for Girls, they can't find a truly exciting mystery to investigate. (Unless you count the case of Lavinia's missing tie. Which they don't). Then Hazel discovers the body of the Science Mistress, Miss Bell - but when she and Daisy return five minutes later, the body has disappeared. Now the girls have to solve a murder, and prove a murder happened in the first place. But will they succeed? And can their friendship stand the test?”

The Case of the Missing Marquess (Book one in series) by Nancy Springer

“When Enola Holmes, sister to the detective Sherlock Holmes, discovers her mother has disappeared, she quickly embarks on a journey to London in search of her. But nothing can prepare her for what awaits. Because when she arrives, she finds herself involved in the kidnapping of a young marquess, fleeing murderous villains, and trying to elude her shrewd older brothers--all while attempting to piece together clues to her mother's strange disappearance. Amid all the mayhem, will Enola be able to decode the necessary clues and find her mother?”

Our Read With PRIDE! event is running until the end of June and it has been great to see the entries coming in!

Here's a reminder of how students can enter:

  • Read a book with an LGBTQIA+ character or theme.

  • Write their name, the title of the book, and a one sentence (or longer!) review on a piece of paper and put it in the box near the dinosaurs.

Students can find a list of rainbow books in our library catalogue here to get them started, and some of these titles will be available as eBooks or Audiobooks, so they can take a look at our Wheelers platform as well! Out on the Shelves also has lists of books here if they are looking for more titles.

The event runs until the end of June and they can read as many books and enter as many times as they like. Open to both staff and students (parents and caregivers are also very welcome if you would like to participate)!

Happy Reading!
