Independent Learning Time (iTime)

Independent Learning Time (iTime) for Term 2 - Tuesday 15th June.

Some of the strongest feedback from both yourselves and staff following lockdown last year was around how beneficial you found it being able to prioritise your time and the work that needed to be completed. In response to this we have introduced iTime within the school structure to allow this flexibility and independence in managing your learning.

Our first full school (minus Year 12) iTime was in Term 1 this year. The feedback from this was positive and we have responded to suggestions around the timing within the term.

The independent learning time (iTime) for term 2 will be on Tuesday 15 June (Periods 3,4 & 5). It will begin at 11:10 after Chapel/Whanaungatanga time.

For the i Time teachers of the classes students have on that day will set work that can be completed independently. This work will be set up in class earlier in the week.

For this work teachers will indicate the:

Must Do

Should Do

Could Do

This will give students clear expectations of what is expected - (teachers will not set more work than a student would normally be expected to cover in one class)

During the timetabled class the teacher will be available to meet with them - this could be done online or in person, small groups or individuals. This will need to be worked out with the teacher.

Students will have the flexibility to manage when and where within allocated spaces, they complete the half day’s work. Year 13 will have the option of working at school or at home/hostel.
