Tolcarne News

This week has been full of winter sport starting, school work increasing, and extra curricular commitments getting underway. It feels like everyone is getting into a new routine and our Year 9 girls are slotting into 'Term 2 life' perfectly!

Mrs Barron, Mrs Rathbone, Robyn and two of our Year 10 girls have been off on Country Visits this week. They have been meeting a range of potential new students, getting to know them better and showing what Tolcarne has to offer!

The new vehicle has been an exciting addition to Tolcarne, with Isla and the Year 9 girls taking it for a spin on Tuesday. Everyone gave it the tick of approval, which can be seen by the smiling faces in the selfie below!

On Tuesday afternoon our Year 9 activity was baking! The girls decided to make something a little different, adding Oreo biscuits into their cookies before baking them. This was a sugar filled creation, which provided a lot of smiles on a rainy afternoon! We are looking forward to more Tuesday afternoon activities, currently brainstorming different recipes to cook, craft projects to start, and places to check out in town

We are loving the new upgrade of the Activities Room, which has been getting plenty of use from all year groups. The juniors are looking forward to the prospect of cooking a meal in the upcoming weeks, which they will be able to take for lunch the following day.

For Koru this week the Year 9 girls finished off the remainder of our movie 'Inside Out'. After reflecting on different emotions shown throughout the film, we discussed which roles each emotion played, how they can take over and looked into our own 'core emotions'. This was a chance for the girls to reflect on what they had watched, seeing how the messages represented different parts of their personal lives.

The Otago Boys dinner swap was a success on Thursday evening. Our senior girls headed to the OB's hostel for dinner, with our juniors hosting the Year 9 and 10 boys. Ross and the kitchen team served up a delicious meal of enchiladas - a favourite at Tolcarne. It was a great chance for the students to catch up, participate in games, see friends and also to meet new people! We are already looking forward to our next dinner swap - thanks to the Head Boarders from Otago Boys and Tolcarne for organising a great evening.

We have an exciting weekend ahead, with the Highlanders rugby game tonight and Laser Tag on Sunday! I am sure there will be fierce competition on Sunday and a lot of laughs had  Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday
