Finals Week!

Hockey:

On Monday night, our Senior First XI played Columba in the Division 1 Secondary Schools Hockey Competition. It was a beautiful night down at the turf and the support around the fence line was incredible. Both teams were strong on attack and even better on defence.

With only about 12min to go and plenty of attacking pressure from our team, SHCS finally found the goal and went up 1-0. Thankfully the clock ran down and the team took the trophy. Both teams should be super proud of their performances this season and every game played with great sportsmanship. Wishing both teams well for tournament week!

Rugby: FINAL - Otago Metro SS Girls

St Hilda's Collegiate First XV vs Otago Girls High

Score 10-12 in favour of Otago Girls.

Two evenly matched teams battled through an epic first half. The scoring opened with a 24th minute try to OGHS (Te Atawhai Campbell) out wide on the left. 0-5 at halftime. In the 12th minute of the second half a try to St Hilda's in the right corner by Hannah Lithgow leveled the game up 5-5. The reply from OGHS was swift and under the posts (Abigail Paton), with a successful conversion 5-12.

Four minutes later, we score another great try in the right corner, through the evasive deeds and a power finish by Alexia Jones. 10-12.
The final ten minutes were full of excitement. Line breaks from both teams and amazing defence.

Super PROUD of the dignified response in processing a really close loss, and showing OGHS respect as they celebrated a hard fought victory.

Next Assignment - Highlanders Final.

St Hilda's Collegiate vs Southland Girls High School on Monday the 22nd of August. This will be held at Alhambra-Union, North Ground. 3.15pm Kickoff - come along and support the team!

Sophia Le (Year 12) competed in the New Zealand Taekwondo Nationals 2022 in Auckland on the 6th August. Taekwondo is a full-physical sport that requires a tremendous amount of effort, dedication, self-discipline and passion! Qualities that Sophie certainly exhibits, not only in her sport, but in her academics too.

We would like to recognise her achievements and latest results from the Taekwondo Nationals held in Auckland. Sophia was awarded Best Female Colour Belt Poomsae and Gold in Junior Female Poomsae. Great job Sophia!

Greer Egan (Year 10) has been making her way around the country competing in various rock climbing events from Te Anau to Auckland. She started climbing one year ago with Mr St Louis at our schools' indoor wall and was immediately hooked!

Greer is already rocking it on the NZ climbing scene, leading grade 19 and even beginning to learn how to do multi-pitch rock climbing (that means climbing up very high! Stopping at stations along the wall, building anchors to keep herself safe and belaying people up to join her). Greer is competing in the National Indoor Bouldering Series (NIBS). She has competed at Queenstown, Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch and is currently coming 3rd overall under 16 female.
