Year 7&8 Self Defence Course

The Year 7&8 students have recently completed their five hour Self Defence Course, capability led by Women’s Self Defence Wāhine Toa instructor Casey Brown. Their course was specifically designed for this age group and was practical, fun and empowering. It included discussions, games, physical sessions and role-plays relevant to the age of the year group.

The students learnt to think confidently, speak strongly and use self defense skills when necessary. They learnt ways of dealing with unsafe situations including:

  • How to deal with being followed
  • Obscene phone calls or txts
  • Acquaintance and stranger attacks
  • Sexual harassment
  • Getting out of grabs and holds
  • How to think their way out of threatening situations.
