Meet the Prefects

Analee Toro - Maori and Pasifika Prefect

Ever since I came to my first open day in Year 4, I could see myself as a Hilda’s girl. I could imagine myself walking through the arch each day in my blue blazer, doing cool experiments in the science labs and sitting outside on the field with all my new friends. I was so eager, I made sure to go to the open night in years 5 and 6 too. When I finally got the call that I had been accepted I was absolutely fizzing.

I’m now very close to finishing my last and seventh year here and I can confidently say St Hilda’s has played a huge role in shaping me into the person I am today. I have come such a long way from the nervous, shy little Year four who first walked through that arch. St Hilda’s has offered me so many valuable opportunities and experiences.

One of the biggest assets at St Hilda’s is our amazing teachers. Over my 7 years, I've nearly been taught by every teacher and have always felt so supported and encouraged. I know my teachers believe in me, which has helped me aim for the stars and achieve my goals. The jokes and laughter in and out of the classroom with my teachers and classmates over my time here will definitely be a huge part of my memories from St Hilda’s.

Sport has been a huge part of my time at St Hilda’s. I love the lasting connections and friendships that I’ve developed through participating in so many different sports, ranging from water polo and cricket in Year 8, to volleyball, netball, basketball and hockey - which I continued into the junior and senior school. I've got to know so many girls in different year groups including my own, that I probably wouldn't have met otherwise through my participation in sports and tournaments.

Since Year seven I have admired and aspired to be like the older girls that were my role models. I still remember the excitement of having Ihlara McIndoe coming and playing hot seat with us in Year 7 form time! When my name was announced at prize-giving last year as Māori and Pasifika prefect, I was overwhelmed with the excitement and responsibility I knew the role had, as well as being excited to give back to the community. The role has taught me so much and I’ve loved working with the girls as a prefect team, working to continue the inclusive sisterhood and legacy of St Hilda’s.

My years at St Hilda’s have gone so fast and have been filled with so many happy memories and amazing people. I’ve learnt a lot of valuable skills and lessons, and I’m excited to see where my journey beyond school takes me next year.
