Junior South Islands Waterpolo Championships

Ten team members made their way to Christchurch to compete, along with the new mascot ‘ Gangsta Bunny’. Our first game was against St Margarets and it was tough, losing 9 -2, but we now had the measure of the competition and stepped up. We won our next three games, Marion College,15-4, Canterbury Combined, 6-5 and had a decisive win over Columba, 13-5.

The highlight of the tournament was the game against Villa Maria. They were a strong team and we knew we had to play it tight and right. It was dynamic! The game flew from end to end, with goals plenty and some incredible defense by both teams. It was impassioned and emotional, but ultimately, we gained the upper hand and won 10-8 which then pitted us against Otago Girls High school.

Otago Girls played a blinding game and we lost 2-11. But we picked ourselves up and went in to play Villa Maria again for 5th place. We came out victorious with a 5-2 win.

Thanks has to go to Kyle Forde and Paris Sinclair for their coaching and encouragement of the team. We achieved our aim of ending in the top five, had a mighty tournament and a really successful season.
