NZC Primary Schools Regional Final Match Report

Last Friday saw the New Zealand Cricket Primary Schools Shield - Otago Southland regional final, played at Logan Park between St Hilda's and Fairfield Primary. Winning the toss, captain Sophie Deerness elected to bat. The team got off to a shaky start, teetering at 6-2. However, a good partnership between Emilie Barron (35) and Sophie Deerness (24) alongside a valuable contribution from Florence Kirkpatrick-Devereux (16) saw the team through to a defendable total of 97 from their 20 overs.

In the second innings St Hilda's bowled and feilded well, conceding few extras and taking wickets at regular intervals. Emilie Barron had figures of 2-17 from her 4 overs and Florence Kirkpatrick-Devereux 1-5 from 1 over. However, Sophie Deerness starred in the field. Claiming a stumping while wicket keeping and figures of 4-4 from her 2 overs of bowling, included a hat trick to to close out the game and seal St Hilda's a place at the national tournament.

Overall a fantastic end to cricket season, with St Hilda's claiming both the primary and secondary regional titles for the first time. Both teams now have the opportunity to compete for their respective national titles later in the year. Well done girls you have done St Hilda's proud!
