Otago Secondary School Netball Championships

This was held on Sunday & Monday this week. The tournament is always a wonderful opportunity for our teams to play school teams from around the region and it is also the start of tournament season.

At the end of day one, all four SHCS teams had topped their pool play and won a quarter final. It had been a long cold day at the Edgar Centre, so a much needed fire and sleep were the instructions when they left!

Heading into semi finals on Monday, there was great excitement from players, coaches, manager and parent supporters. All teams were playing well and ready to take on finals netball. In the semis, our 9A team were playing Mt Aspiring and won 26-17, the 10A played Wakatipu which finished 32-15 to SHCS, the Senior B team played Otago Girls and won 50-17, Senior A team played Taieri College and won 40-27.

More excitement came over the group as all four were in the main final. A fantastic result for all the teams. Unfortunately, all finals were playing at the same time so each team were unable to support the other.

Congratulations to 9A who beat Columba 28-13 in their final.  Hard luck to the other three teams who put 100% out on court but unable to take the win. With several opportunities in the rest of the season to take on their final opposition, I am positive the hunger to take the next win will be high!
