Tolcarne News

This week has flown by, with everyone excited for the long weekend break! There has been lots of excitement leading up to the famous Tolcarne social, planning outfits and contemplating whether to fake tan or not!

On Monday evening we held our annual 'My Flat Rules' cooking competition for the Year 13 girls in the flats. They had several mystery box ingredients, including - Pork Belly, Gnocchi, Cauliflower, All Spice, Pomegranate and Pineapple. Points were awarded for use of the key ingredients, meal presentation, flavour and team work.

We were treated to various entrees of gnocchi in all shapes and forms, with various dipping sauces and spices used. For the main we had pulled pork buns, pork belly with cauliflower puree and even caramelised vegetables! The dessert options were incredible, Forest flat made a 'raw' paleo chocolate tart, Desert baked a delicious caramel brownie and Ocean created a deconstructed brownie with homemade pomegranate ice cream. We certainly did not go hungry!!

The Ocean girls took out first place, winning a flat dinner at the Esplanade! All of the other girls won Starfish vouchers for their hard work and involvement. Well done to all of the Year 13's, we loved your enthusiasm, collaboration and even Christmas singing performances!

The biggest event in the junior calendar was held on Thursday... The Tolcarne Social! This was an amazing evening and everyone looked like they had just stepped off the plane from Hawaii - tans and all! The boys even dressed for the occasion, wearing hula skirts and Hawaiian shirts. A massive thank you to the Tolcarne Council for organizing the event, and to our kitchen team for catering delicious mocktails and various platters. Woohoo bring on the rest of the 'social season'

This week some of the girls also learnt how to make smoothie bowls as another breakfast option. Their favorite flavours were, snickers and chocolate berry! Next week Mrs Rathbone is going to teach the juniors how to make chia seed puddings, another breakie/lunch option.

Next week on Wednesday October the 28th, Dee Copland (who is a Nutritionist/Naturopath and used to be a boarder at Tolcarne) will be coming in at 6.30pm to share her knowledge with our seniors. She will talk about our female hormones as well as the nervous system, and how they impact on our day to day lives. She will explain why we need quality sleep, how to manage stress and also how to improve energy and concentration around study.

Have an amazing long weekend break, enjoy some sunshine and time with family/friends. We will see you all next week
