Year 10 Performing Arts - Charleston at Olveston

On Friday 16th September, the Year 10 performing arts class was lucky enough to experience some Charleston dancing in the beautiful rooms of Olveston. History Live, an international workshop group, presented the workshop.

Students were transported in history to the 1920s, after WW1, experiencing the happiness and freedom people felt after this. The Year 10s lit up the room with their energy and enthusiasm, matching the 'party atmosphere' that would've existed in the 1920s dance halls.

10PART Students are also going to attend Taieri Musical's Chicago next week, which is full of Fosse style dance. Bob Fosse incorporated the Charleston genre into many of his choreographies, so watching this musical performance will enhance the year 10s knowledge on 1920s dance.

Following this, students will be working on their own Charleston inspired choreographies. What an exciting time for 10 PART - bring on the pearls, tuxes and flapper dresses!
