Year 5&6 Team- Lucy, Cameron, Will, Alea. Year 7&8 Team- Dawson, Damon, Caelyn, Amelia

From 9.30am to 12.30, our Year 5&6 Epro8 team ventured into Bluestone school for the Timaru Finals. In the evening, our Year 7&8 Team competed from 5pm until 8:30pm.

Our year 5&6 team quickly got started working on a challenge where they had to use fans to guide a balloon up and through a hoop that had been created with the steel rods. The frame had to have lots of bracing. Alongside this, the team had to understand and use electronics to make 2 fans work to power the balloon up and through the hoop. After completing this challenge they worked on making structures to gain more points.

In the evening, our year 7&8 team decided to start with a painting machine. The aim of this challenge was to create a tall device which would automatically paint an area. Once the paintbrush was connected to a long handle which was then connected to a strong tall structure, the team had to work out a way to make the paintbrush handle move. This was a tricky task and after some time the team thought tactically that they could get more points finishing another task. They did an excellent and quick job at creating the netball hoop for the balloon to go through and even had time to start a third challenge.

It was fantastic to see both teams working so well together, supporting one another and using each other's strengths.

A huge congratulations to both teams who placed. Our year 7&8 team coming in a close third and our year 5&6 team who won and will now be of to Ashburton to compete against Canterbury teams.

In week 10 on the 8th of July we will be having a mufti day with a gold coin donation to help get this team to Ashburton. There will be fun engineering challenges on this day and a theme which is yet to be announced.
