Matai Specialist School - Save Our Build

Corrin Vedder —

Support our Kāhui Ako Colleagues at Maitai School by signing the petition below:

After 10 years of planning, a new purpose-built facility for Maitai Specialist School – the only day school for students with high and complex needs in the Top of the South – is no longer likely to go ahead according to advice recently received from the Ministry of Education. Maitai’s only satellite class for college age students is also in jeopardy.

“Our school is no longer fit for purpose and bursting at the seams. If it doesn’t go ahead as soon as possible, the most complex, challenging and medically fragile students in our society will be forced into an educational setting that is inappropriate to their needs. We’re full and we have a whole cohort of students who have nowhere to go next year,” – Maitai Principal Jenny Milne.

Maitai Specialist School calls on decision makers at all levels, particularly Minister of Education Erica Stanford and Minister of Finance Nicola Willis, to prioritise funding for our new school. Please sign this petition today and help us confirm funding to build the learning environments these students need and deserve.
