Impact Coaching Update - Kia Kaha Coaches and Kaiako!
Many impact coaches and teachers have begun working together this term and many more will begin next term. More impact coaches are being trained and the capacity of our schools to self-manage this is growing.
We now have five schools within our Kāhui Ako that can train their own impact coaches. Teachers from many schools in our Kāhui Ako have begun to train as new impact coaches. They are being trained by one of the Across School Teachers or an accredited impact coach trainer at their own school.
Many of the teachers who train as impact coaches have told us that being an impact coach is a privilege and great professional development. The opportunity to see others teach is very precious and to listen and support colleagues reflecting on their own practice is a rewarding experience. Coaches will often report that they get as much, if not more, out of coaching someone as they person they are coaching.
"I've never come away from a coaching conversation without thinking about something that I will now try in my own practice."
Many schools in our Kāhui Ako are using the impact coaching model as their Professional Growth Cycle. Being able to use an evidence based system such as impact coaching to meet all the requirements of the Professional Growth Cycle is helping teachers to grow professionally and streamline their requirements for continued teacher registration.
Teachers who participate in impact coaching can feel reassured that they are given opportunities to see their strengths and choose an area for development based on evidence and their professionally informed decisions about what will work best for their learners.
It seems that the Ministry of Education are also promoting the benefits of this approach, using the expertise of Emeritus Professor Dr Russell Bishop as a guide to implementing the upcoming Common Practice Model. See this link - Common Practice Model
