Curriculum Refresh Staff Only Day

Corrin Vedder —

The Kāhui Ako Staff only day will be held at Annesbrook Church on 11 November.

We are looking forward to the upcoming Staff-Only Day dedicated to the Curriculum Refresh for Mathematics and English. This day will be a fantastic opportunity for our Kāhui ako staff to come together and engage with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on how the refreshed curriculum will be enacted in their classrooms.

A full programme of the day can be seen by clicking here: Staff Only Day PROGRAMME

Date: 11 November

Time: Doors will be open from 8 am for sign in. Please be seated in the Auditorium by 8.30 am.

What to Expect

The focus of the day will be on understanding the changes and updates in the Mathematics and English curricula.

The sessions will be facilitated by representatives from the Ministry of Education, who will guide us through the new curriculum framework, key changes, and practical strategies for effective implementation. This is a wonderful chance to directly interact with experts, ask questions, and gain insights into how the refreshed curriculum can be applied in our classrooms.

Year 7-8 Teachers will also have the opportunity to look ahead to the Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment activities that ākonga will experience as they move through to high school.

During the day, Teacher Aides will have the opportunity to work closely with Resource Teachers: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB)/ Speech & Language Therapists. These sessions are designed to provide targeted support, ensuring that teacher aides are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to support diverse learners, particularly those with additional learning needs.

Aims of the day

  1. Understanding: Get a clear understanding of how the new curriculum changes in Mathematics and English will impact teaching and learning.

  2. Guidance: Benefit from direct facilitation by MOE facilitators who will help us navigate the key elements of the refresh.

  3. Collaboration Opportunities: Strengthen teamwork between teachers, teacher aides, and RTLB to enhance student learning outcomes.

What to Bring

Please bring your laptop or tablet, as there will be digital resources shared throughout the day. You may also find it useful to have access to a unit of work which you have already created.

Your principals have been asked to collate any burning questions prior to the day, so that they can be forwarded to the MOE to address. Please feed these through to your principal prior to 5th November.

Morning Tea will be provided.

Future Adaptations for Literacy and Numeracy Pathways

As part of our ongoing commitment to aligning with the Curriculum Refresh, we are actively working on updating our literacy and numeracy pathways to reflect the new changes. These pathways will be carefully revised to ensure they are fully in sync with the refreshed curriculum.

By aligning these pathways with the new curriculum, we aim to provide students with the skills and understanding they need to thrive in an evolving educational landscape. We look forward to sharing more details as we move forward with this exciting phase of our Kāhui ako mahi.

We are looking forward to the valuable conversations, collaboration, and learning that will take place during this day. It’s a time for us to reflect, plan, and ensure we are fully prepared to implement these curriculum updates in the coming term.

We look forward to seeing all staff there!
