New Zealand Sign Language

Jan Stevenson —

Last week, we as a team were very lucky to take part in Professional Development in house with Emmie from Deaf Aotearoa. She came and supported us as we strengthened our NZSL abilities. We have been practising hard to use the signs she taught us with the tamariki throughout our days. So you may notice your tamariki also practising these signs with you at home.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about NZSL and what we are doing in the preschool, please just ask.

Over the next few months, we are introducing some of our favourite songs to our mat times and incorporating NZSL with them:

1. Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see? Which are colours and animals.

2. 5 Buns in the Bakers Shop.

Here are a few signs that you may be able to practice at home with your tamariki and the alphabet so you can all have a go at signing your name. Just have fun with it!!!

Thanks, from your NZSL Leadership team Jan, Jenni, Dayna, and Tracy.
