Whakanui & Puawai News

Sam Fowler —

Hello Spring! Nau mai haere mai/welcome if you are new to Whakanui or Puawai! We are loving having so many new children and families starting with us recently!

In the nursery we have been focusing on providing creative experiences that encourage the tamarikis imagination. During these engaging art experiences tamariki gain the opportunity to develop their fine motor skills while also discovering new ways to be creative and expressive. Colours merge, textures change and all of this is investigated with a sense of wonder and excitement together.

All of our children are extremely interested in this tactile play so it is important we are introducing them to new textures that amuse and delight all five of their senses.

It is our intention to foster the creativity of our tamariki whilst also supporting their mental, social and emotional development. These creative experiences encourage tamariki to play and learn alongside each other, developing negotiation skills and turn taking. This contributes to our current group planning focus on Oral Language and allows tamariki the time and space to explore new language strategies.

We provide a wide range of art materials from natural paint brushes, and leaves to balloons and cars. This allows the tamariki to broaden their knowledge of textures and colours and experiment with new and exciting outcomes. You will notice our walls filling up with these amazing creations and some may even be coming home in bags, these are a result of our tamarikis expanding imagination and investigation skills with new materials and modes.

"Every child is an artist, Imagination is the beginning of creation"
