Calligraphy in Room 3

Jade Reddington —

The students in Room 3 have had fun practising the art of Chinese calligraphy.

As part of our Chinese Language Programme at Tahuna, we got to learn how to paint calligraphy using Chinese methods. It was challenging holding the brush and keeping our arms off the table, but really cool to paint.

At first we got to practise our calligraphy using a special paper, which would reveal our paint strokes when we added water to the brash and then made marks on the paper. It was such a neat way to do the calligraphy, because if we made a mistake then the water would dry up and our marks would disappear.

We got to practise this calligraphy for 2 weeks before Peng Lao shi our Mandarin Teacher said we were ready for rice paper. There will be more to come. Hope you like our work!
