That Was Lockdown

Keith Hutton —

Here are selection of Poems from Room 4

That Was Lockdown

Have you ever been through lockdown?

Well I have, twice.

Remember that time your Mum was yelling at you to stop face timing your friends at midnight?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you tasted your salty tears whilst having a breakdown because you missed your friends?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you were sitting in your parent’s car whilst Mum went shopping?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time where you were lying in bed, scrolling through tiktok for hours?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you woke up at 9:55 and realised you had a zoom at 10. so you had to get ready really fast?

That was lockdown.

With all its ups and downs.

That was Lockdown

Have you ever been in lockdown?

Sure you have.

Remember that time when you had a terrible sleep schedule and would stay up

all night long, just like a nocturnal night owl?

This was definitely was lockdown

Remember that time when you would have to run what seemed like hundreds of errands, for baking ingredients every single day? The kitchen was always full of cookies, muffins and cake. It seemed like an “all you can eat buffet.”

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you spent too much quality time with the family

until you finally got sick of the sound of your sister's high pitch voice?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you could spend countless hours, all day, on a game with no distractions, playing with your friends, no worries about outside life?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you would go for daily walks around the neighbourhood? The block being a ghost town with no one in sight and all you could hear was birds chirping in the background.

That was lockdown

Toby

Ever been in lockdown?

We all have.

Remember that time when your alarm went off

but you knew you didn't

have to get up so

you slept in for hours?

That was lockdown

Remember when you went

for long walks,

trying to find the oldest grave?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time when you did endless zooms

with your friends whilst eating dinner

in your room?

All of the netflix parties

that somehow never seemed to end.

Movie after movie.

Hour after hour.

That was lockdown.

Remember not having to rush

to get out of bed?

Biking with your family

and you could bike in the middle of

the road, not worrying about getting run over.

That was lockdown.

Remember your brother screaming at you

to clean his room

or he would tell Mum what you did?

That was my lockdown

That Was Lockdown

Have you ever experienced lockdown?

Sure you have.

Remember that time the new Fortnite season came out

and all your mates jammed it all day and night?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time

coming home from school,

to see Jacinda on the telly

announcing a level 4 lockdown for the whole country?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time

you slept all day

and were awake and night,

then became nocturnal?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time

you went on a bike ride,

only to see the roads empty and the shops closed

and your whole local area practically abandoned?

That was lockdown.

Remember that time

we went into Level 3

all the fast food restaurants opened back up

and people were lining up, like they’d never been there before?

That wasn't lockdown!

That was Lockdown

By Josh C

Have you had the experience of being stuck at home because of Covid?

I know you have.

Remember building forts with siblings

And pretending they were spaceships

For them to then get destroyed

By your pet puppy dog?

That was lockdown .

Remember when

You went for a run

Every second day

And you got sore shins after going for 6km?

Remember after that you had a class zoom

You sat there all sweaty and exhausted?

That was lockdown.

Remember the smell of the kitchen

Of baking that was being baked so very well?

And tasting the sweet caramel

Of the slice that you were longing for?

That was lockdown.

Remember going for long walks

On the Chisholm links golf course,

Most days,

And finding all those golf balls

That were hidden away?

Once one was found, you had that rush of excitement,

The sort that filled you up until you got home.

That was Lockdown.

Remember Playing Football

Online and outside

Smelling the mud when practicing your skills

Practicing for when, if ever, we came out of lockdown?

And winning the cup on FIFA 19

Signing those players to make your Dream team.

That was lockdown.

That Was Lockdown

Have you ever had to face lockdown?

I’m sure you have

Remember those times you stayed up all night and totally forgot about your zoom meeting the next morning and slept in

Remember coming home from school and seeing Jacinda on the tv announcing that we were going into Level 4 lockdown

Remember going on walks and seeing all the shops looking empty

That was lockdown.

Remember those times when you had fights with your siblings over something small

Remember baking with your family on boring days such as everyday

Remember the times when you had facetimed your friends for hours on end and sat there watching Netflix and falling asleep together while still on call

That was lockdown.

Remember when your parents went to the shop and you were so bored you went with them

Remember the time when you were scrolling through Instagram at 1am and your mum yelled at you for still being up

Remember the time when you got so sick of lockdown that you just stayed in your room all day and only came out to eat and drink

That was lockdown.

Remember when Jacinda announced that we were going into Level 3 and everyone went to Maccas like it was going out of fashion

Well that was lockdown.
