Aaron Hewson Shares His Experience of Success at Tahuna.

Aaron Hewson —

As the recipient of one of the first success values bracelets Aaron shares how he has achieved this award.

Success is important to me. I have a hip injury that highly affects my physical activities, so I love to compete in academic things. I love success. This is partly because I achieve it, but that’s not the point.

Success is different for everyone. For some, it is winning. For others, being better than others. For me it is about doing the best I can, and this works out well. Sometimes I win (rarely) and sometimes I lose, but as long as I do well for my ability, I am happy.

At Tahuna, I attained success by joining everything that I thought I could do. In only one to this day I can remember I won. I did academic things like the Lit Quiz, Extra Spelling Quiz, Classics and the O’Mathalon. The one I won was the Scrabble Intermediate Dunedin Competition.

Most of my 20 blue cards have come from achieving in the classroom, so you don’t have to do extra curricular activities. Many people I know wonder how I get so many blue cards. It's simple. Just apply yourself to it and you can do anything, like a guest speaker Cam Calkoen once said.

I am very excited to get my Success Band. It is a reminder of the effort and the struggles I have put into getting blue cards. I am very honoured to be one of the first to get my Success Band and I will use it for justice and only the right things. ( Skipping the canteen line!)

Aaron (Curly) Hewson.
