STEAM-ing Ahead

Room 6 —

Room 6 are using robots to help re-enforce their mathematical knowledge of area and perimeter.

Room 6 have been using MBots to help them develop not just coding technology skills but also estimation and distance all needed in their area and perimeter unit.

Mr Cook-Bonnie talked to us last week about STEAM which means Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. He explained how these areas could be linked together in our learning.

In our session we linked Maths and Technology. We learnt how to program the MBots and worked in groups to code our robot to travel 1m. Once we had these skills we moved onto coding our robot to travel through a maze which included turning, distance and travel time.

We learnt about how the robots used a sensor just like your remote control at home uses infrared LED. In one of the programs the MBots use an ultrasonic sensor to make sure they don't hit an object in front of them.

We really enjoyed the session and we are looking forward to using them again this week during maths.
