Diving our oceans in virtual reality
Our students experienced VR videos filmed by New Zealand Geographic in marine environments around Aotearoa to understand our underwater environments and what threatens them.
Students were fully immersed underwater in these different environments. They were able to compare our northern marine environments with ones in the deep south and pristine marine environments with degraded ones.
Our rangatahi investigated what caused this damage with a focus on overfishing and pollution, as well as what actions can be taken to show kaitiakitanga (guardianship).
On a purely immature note, it was pretty funny to see them defending themselves against 'sharks' and their arms flailing around the room as they tried to swim and point out new things 🤣
