After our second feedback session and prototype 2 - every student made their own sustainable lunch box option.

 Finns PBL project

Pbl was about trying to reduce the amount of rubbish this school produces. Our goal is 90kgs Yesterday we had 12kgs of rubbish which is a lot less than we were going for but that is good. We worked on ways to lessen the amount of rubbish we used, our whole class did projects but the project I did was beeswax. I used some fabric and accidentally used a lot of beeswax. Our whole class did well and went through with their projects.

Chris’s PBL Project

This term for PBL (project-based learning) we have been trying to reduce waste at Tahuna. At the start of the term we produced 184 KG’s of waste and our goal was to get it down to 90 KGs when we weighed it again yesterday it was at 12KG’s. Our class decided to make reusable sandwich wraps. I made a beeswax wrap with Lewis and Talo. It was fun and I enjoyed it but it was hard to figure out how to get rid of the clumps of wax. 

Talo’s PBL Project

This term for project-based learning (PBL) at Tahuna we are trying to reduce waste from 184KG to 90KG. Room 13 did beeswax wraps, reusable sandwich wraps and beeswax snack bags. We had to find a group so I went with me, Chris and Lewis. With our group made we decided to do just a beeswax wrap(a wrap made from cotton dipped in beeswax). It was fun and interesting but overall I like how it came out.

Lewis’ PBL Project

This term for PBL, Room 13 was doing a sustainable project to help the world. I, Chris and Talo made a beeswax wrap, a beeswax wrap is sustainable because it limits the use of plastic food wraps. I liked PBL but the hardest part for me was dipping the cotton into the beeswax with the tongs. Our goal at Tahuna was to reduce the school's waste down from 184 kgs to 90 kgs. When we weighed our waste it was only 12 kgs!

Coveys PBL project

This term at Tahuna we are being waste minimisation agents. In room 13 we are doing beeswax so we don't have to use plastic. By the end of the term. We are trying to get to 90 kgs of plastic but we were on 184 kgs. And the other day we only had 12 kgs in the skip. Me and my partner Kalani have finished the final product. I think it looks good. I liked the way we dipped the fabric in the beeswax and the way it dries so fast. I am impressed with how it turned out.

Chi’s PBL Project

This term at Tahuna has been very busy, as every class has been working hard to minimise waste. At the start of the term, we had 184 kg of waste, so by the end of the term, our goal was to half that and have 90 kg. Each class got a project and in room 13, we have been working on making our lunches more sustainable. We started on beeswax wraps, snack bags, and fabric/nylon snack bags.

My group (Jess and I) made beeswax snack bags, and we thoroughly enjoyed the process. My favourite part was when we dipped our fabric in beeswax.

Isabelle’s PBL Project

This Term one of our focuses has been waste Management. Tahuna School has been thinking of many ways to reduce waste around Tahuna... Rm 13's idea was to make food wrap for the environment. I made a beeswax wrap which some didn't go to plan but thankfully mine was alright. We coated the Material in beeswax and we will use hand warmth to fold it together. My hope is that it doesn't rot fast and isn't such a waste to the environment. I did enjoy dipping the material in the pot and struggling to fold it out so it lays flat.

Caitlins PBL project

I really enjoyed PBL this term and really liked learning how to make beeswax wraps with my class. My favourite milestone was definitely milestone 4 because all of the planning had already been done and all we needed to do was make our final product which turned out to be so fun! The hardest part was planning and making the first prototype and for my group, it didn't turn out so well, so we decided to change our plan in a way that made our final project more successful. Overall I think I learned a lot in PBL this term.

Juliette’s PBL project

This term at Tahuna we have been focusing on waste management and minimization. Each class has been doing this in their own way, and we were in charge of making beeswax wraps and snack bags, and velcro wraps. We all learnt how to coat cotton fabric in beeswax and how to design prototypes. As a class, we have definitely learnt a lot about sustainability. We also have improved as a school! At the start of the term, we found out that we were producing around 180 kg of waste, so we aimed to halve this. And we exceeded expectations, producing only 12 kgs of waste

Bellas PBL project

This term our focus was to try and reduce waste at tahuna.

First, we started by planning what we could make to reduce waste. Once we decided to make reusable food wraps we started planning and finding the methods. Then we made prototype one with tiny squares covered in beeswax. Then once we got feedback we made the final prototype. I found this process really fun, and thanks to all who helped us with this project.
