Aerobics Success

Saige Evans —

In June 2019 I competed in Wellington for a chance to be selected to represent New Zealand at the World Aerobics in Holland. I didn't believe it when my name was called out. I stood there with a funny look on my face in disbelief.

Right up until the time I arrived in Holland I had to train everyday. From doing my skills to my full routine and general fitness.

I also had to compete at Canterbury/Southland and Otago Regionals where I had to prove that I was still at the required level to go to Worlds. There was a lot of pressure on me to continue improving right till the week we left.

My mum had to do loads of fundraising to help me get there.

I was very excited as I left with my family and Grandparents for our 17hr flight to Dubai first and then 3 days later on to Leiden in Holland.

The event started 4 days after we arrived but I still had to train everyday.

It was really intimidating when I walked in. The Czech Republic had the biggest team there next the Australians. I had 23 girls in my section. The competition was fierce. I knew these girls were good but this was second level.

I made it through the heats to the semi-finals to end up 11th out the 23.
