Netball Tournament with the 8A Troopers!

Jess Cooper —

The 8A netball team had a great season this year, with some great wins taking 4th place overall. On Thursday, they competed in the Otago Tournament and had an awesome day!

On Thursday, we competed in the Otago Primary Schools Netball Tournament. There were 20 year 8 teams in total and we had 5 games over the course of the day. We played Kavanagh, St Mary's, Oamaru Intermediate, Columba College, and Balmac.

Throughout the day, netball smart had some activities that we could do in between games. Dani Gray (a current Steel player) taught a netball smart correct landing activity. It was great fun participating as netball smart wants everyone landing correctly to prevent ankle and foot injuries. What we did is we jumped and had a piece of chalk in our hand. When we were in the air we drew the chalk on a piece of paper and tried to land correctly. Dani would correct us to get the right landing. The correct landing technique is having your feet shoulder width apart and bending into the landing, knees in line with your toes.

The competition was tough and Tahuna went up against Balmac for their final game, competing for 5th place. It was a very intense game and could have gone either way at half time, but Tahuna won by a whopping 5 goals! The final score was 13-8. It was our final game of the season and as a team, we wanted to finish with a great game and we sure did!
