Tahuna Students Outstanding in Surf Lifesaving.

Charlotte Underwood- Nicol —

Tahuna Students continue to achieve some awesome results in Surf Lifesaving competitions. Charlotte Underwood- Nicol writes about her efforts in Oceans 15 at Mount Maunganui.

On February 25th a group of 13 St Clair junior lifesavers aged 11–14 went to Mount Maunganui to compete in Oceans 15 (nationals for junior lifesavers under 14).

After a plane ride and a 2.5hr mini bus ride we arrived at our house at the Mount. We were into competing the next day. I had beach flags, sprints and board races that day. I made semi's in my individual events and one final in board the board relay.

The next few days were a whirlwind, over 900 kids, and 100 of them in my age group. The St Clair team returned home with 3 golds, 1 silver and  2 bronze medals.

It was an awesome experience for my first national competition away from home.

Other results from Sunday's Surf Champs at Warrington were;

  • Katie Wong won the U12 girls Beach Flags, Beach Sprints and Beach Relay :)
  • She was also awarded 2nd place overall in the U12 girls section (for the whole season). Charlotte Underwood-Nicol came 3rd.
