Marae Week Tech-Simply Awesome

Grant Philips —

As part of Marae Week our Tech Department was also caught up in all thing Māori.

My Time During Marae Week.

Hard Materials

Marae Week for me was a real eye opener it was an amazing experience &  I'm lucky enough to write about my experience in hard materials.

Where can I start;  hard materials was really enjoyable, designing and printing Māori designs on a piece of plywood and being able to share your creations. Firstly we were given a piece of plywood , then we chose our designs and printed it onto the wood. Then we were able to hot poker our designs , we sanded for about 12 minutes and marked where we would drill the hole if we wanted to make in into a necklace but you didn't have to. The final touch was to add a bit of glamour by using paua but this was your decision. That’s what I enjoyed most was that everything was our decision we could choose what we wanted on our designs.

So all together I really enjoyed my day creating a masterpiece of my own.

ART

Also over the week Year 7 classes were able to take part in a fun activities as part of art tech.

We went through a lot of steps to create a creative piece of artwork with Māori designs. First we drew a maori design of our choice on some card. Next we where given a craft knife to  cut out our design to create our stencil. When we had finished the stencil we printed our pattern onto sack like material. After that we completed our artwork with some paua.

I really enjoyed art tech and was really happy with my finished product.
