Ratio work in Math with lollies!

Jade Reddington —

Working hard in Room 3, the students get to enjoy the benefits of working out ratios with lollies, then getting to eat their results!

To jazz up the excitement in the math class, Mrs Reddington brought lots of packets of lollies. We were all keen to eat them. But before this could happen we had to work with the lollies.

We got into groups of 4 and opened our packets of lollies. Some of us had jelly beans and others had skittles. Our objective was to sort the lollies into their colour groups and then work out the different ratios between the colours in each packet. It was fun to do something a little different and of course to eat our work when we finished.

It took a bit of time to work out all the ratios, but we got there. It was interesting to see that not all packets had the same amount of colours in each groups and so the ratios in each skittle and jellybean packets were different. However, no-one was complaining!
