Cricket Season Has Started!

Jess Cooper —

Cricket has started with two consecutive wins for the girls over the past two weeks. This term we have 4 girls entered in a combined schools, hardball team and we have a Tahuna softball team. The girls are loving the game and enjoying learning how to bat, bowl and field.

During the first week of games, the hardball cricket girls were fortunate enough to meet Suzie Bates, a New Zealand Cricketer who plays for the Otago Sparks, the Southern Vipers and the White Ferns. Suzie came down to Tonga Park to support girls cricket and encourage them as they played.

We have also been lucky to have Jess and Bella, from Otago Cricket, come into school to take the girls for some skills and drills sessions. Jess runs Girls Cricket and does a fantastic job organising the games and supporting the kids/coaches. This year, Bella is running a free YEAH! cricket programme on Wednesday's alongside the girls games. We will be participating in this alongside our softball games each week. There is a lot happening in terms of girls cricket, which is very exciting!
