Otago Polyfest 2016

Salote Rouvi —

Te Taiopeka perform with Mana at this years Otago Polyfest.

On Wednesday 15th of September, members of Te Taiopeka, Tahuna's Kapa Haka group performed at the Edgar Centre for the annual Otago Polyfest.

The group of 85 students were busy preparing for the event over the first 3 terms of the year. Our bracket consisted of two Waiata, E Papa Wai Ari and He Kakano where natural talent in harmony was shown. We then show cased our skill in two Waiata-a-ringa, and concluded with an energetic performance of our school Haka.

Leadership from Kiringaua Cassidy and Wairaamia Taratoa-Bannister two Year 8 students, was greatly appreciated both during our sessions leading up to Polyfest and during our performance.

A huge thank you must go out to Kelly Tikao for making the Heru and the Hei Taringa, a beautiful addition to our costumes. This really lifted the group as we placed them on the performers.

We must also thank Komene Cassidy for helping out our group this year. It was excellent to have his expertise and knowledge passed onto our Kapa. We certainly appreciated the sound of the Guitar also. Kia Ora!
