19A Berwick Camp - Day 2!

Sean Minhinnick —

After an exciting night in our tents we were ready to tackle the challenges of day 2, which included our tramp and a whole bunch of activities back at camp.

It was a pretty chilly night but we all enjoyed the experience and were ready to launch out of tents to dance and sing to a-ha's Take On Me at high volume ringing around the forest - it was quite a sight!

After breakfast it was time to hit the trails and explore Berwick Forest. We headed off, knowing we wouldn't be back to camp for 3-4 hours. After a lovely stroll around a lake we found ourselves back where we started ..... after a bit of head scratching and discussion we tried a different direction and managed to find the trail - in the end.... I blame the kids for getting us lost, the kids blame me (the person in charge), I think we should share the blame ;-)

After following a forestry road (and encountering a few logging trucks beeping their horns for the kids) we climbed up through the forest in search of a 'cafe'. There was beautiful scenery for us all to enjoy and take our minds off the steepness of the terrain. Eventually we made it to our morning tea stop, a breath taking stop overlooking the Sinclair Wetlands. After re-fuelling we followed a ridge line before dropping back down out of the forest and we were back at camp just in time for a lunch of mince pies, pizza, home baking and fruit.

We spent the afternoon back at camp where the kids were able to complete a whole bunch of activities; from the 'electric' spider web, to the bucket challenge, from the flying fox to outdoor, giant, tangram puzzles.

I roamed to see how the students responded to each challenge set for them and to witness and celebrate their success!

The rain came by the late afternoon, but we didn't let this dampen our spirits. After a quick move to cabins we were up in the gymnasium playing dodgeball, the girls won!  Go the girls!!!

There was time for preparation and rehearsals for our camp concert then some more activities inside, diary writing before the smell of our gourmet burgers wafted through to the hall from the kitchen.

The camp concert was truly of international quality, we were all able to witness the incredible talents of the students of 19A. There was singing, playing instruments, comedies, drama, dancing and rapping (to name just a few). The judges were tough, but fair, except for our own Simon Cowell who was very difficult to please ;-)

After our camp concert we had a weather check and the rain had temporarily stopped so were able to set up a game of spotlight - which may well have been the highlight for some of the whole camp lol!

It was time for bed - a big day of packing and tidying up, along with more fun awaited us.
