Bringing our science heroes to life!

Sean Minhinnick —

In the Hub we're using a range of tools to learn about science and scientists including 3D augmented reality.

To launch our big science term we wanted the students to research a scientist of their choice and learn more about their lives, successes, failures, breakthroughs, impact on our lives today etc.

The challenge was for the students to select their favourite scientist, find out their story, then make an augmented reality choose-your-own-adventure for others to experience and learn from.

After all their research was complete the students went onto a website titled Mindomo where they could plan and map out their stories, all the options and paths. Once this was completed, the next stage was to bring their stories to life.

Students used a website called Metaverse where their interactive stories were created. Here they can add buttons for the different pick-a-path options readers have, 2D and 3D images as well. Once the story has been tested and it's complete then students can scan a QR code and their story comes to augmented reality life on a device with the Metaverse app.

It was a huge success and we were able to showcase to the whole Hub the terrific creations made by our students.

Ask your child about the stories they created, it's amazing what they did and can do!
