Eight Tahuna students represented the St Clair Junior Surf Life Saving Club at the South Island Junior Surf Life Saving Competition on January 31st and 1st Feb at Waikouaiti Beach. This was two days of intense and high-energy racing with over 200 competitors and 12 clubs taking part.

Water events included tube and board rescue, kneeboard racing and long sea swims. The sand events were also tough and included sand sprints, flags and beach relays – running on sand at pace is a skill!

To get to this major competition these students took part in a rigorous training regime that saw them down at the beach throughout the holidays, entering other Interclub Surf Life Saving competitions and going in their own time to practice as much as they could. The hard work paid off for this group of students when they brought home a total of 15 medals (mostly golds and silvers) and St Clair Surf Life Saving Club were named the overall club winners with the most competition points.
